Stephen Bauer Mark Etzelmueller 2018 NURF2018 NDnano fellowship recipients Mark Etzelmueller (Notre Dame) and Stephen Bauer (Purdue) worked with Professor Tom O'Sullivan on the development of microimplants for deep tissue optical sensing.

Applications are now being accepted for the summer 2019 NDnano Undergraduate Research Fellowship (NURF) program. More than 20 projects in nanotechnology are available to choose from, and the program is open to current freshmen, sophomores, and juniors attending any college or university.

Students selected will work this summer with Notre Dame engineering and science faculty who are affiliated with the University's Center for Nano Science & Technology.

To date, more than 200 students have participated in the NURF program. The experience includes a wide range of activities, including hands-on experience as part of the faculty's research team, professional development seminars, and opportunities to interact with students from several research programs taking place on campus. The summer culminates with students showcasing their projects in poster or presentation format.

"I would highly recommend this program to my peers," said 2018 fellowship recipient Nishtha Gupta (Indian Institute of Technology-Delhi).

"I had a great experience and learned a lot of new skills while working on my project. I also made so many new friends with my fellow interns. For me it was a very fruitful and wholesome experience."

The fellowships are full time (40 hours/week) and provide a total stipend of $6,000 over a 10-week period. Complete program details, project descriptions, and application instructions are available on the NDnano website at nano.nd.edu/opportunities.
