Education

Nanotechnology is what we make with our ability to image and manipulate matter at the nanoscale. (A nanometer is one billionth of a meter. A human hair is about 100,000 nanometers wide.) At this scale, matter is governed by quantum mechanics, and extraordinary new phenomena are manifest, like tunneling, spin, and superconductivity.

NDnano Undergraduate Research Fellowships (NURF)

Cress photoEach year, NDnano awards several 10-week fellowships for summer undergraduate research in the areas of nanoscience and nanoengineering.

Congratulations to the 2013 NURF recipients!

2012 NURF Program

In 2012, 47 students from Notre Dame and several other universities participated in the NDnano Undergraduate Research Fellowship program. As part of the NURF program, each student prepared a research summary at the conclusion of their project. Visit the links below to "meet" NDnano's past summer researchers and learn about their fellowship experience.
